Animal Communication: A New Paradigm?

Just what is this animal communication stuff anyway? Are we talking crystal orbs and farseeing psychics? Scientific fact? As with most things, there’s a bit of truth in both perspectives but the real meat of the matter falls somewhere in between. 

The phenomenon presently called animal communication consists of the transfer of information directly from an animal to a human. This transfer apparently takes place through a method that is neither sight, sound, taste, touch or smell, the traditional 5 sensory channels. So, for lack of a better descriptor, it’s best referred to as the “mind to mind” transfer of information or telepathy. Up until a few years ago, no one really considered such a transfer to be possible. Nowadays, if you do an Internet web search on animal communication or animal communicators, you can come up with hundreds of references. 

Considered a fiction in the past, some reputable research is now beginning in the field. Rupert Sheldrake, a British scientist, is at the forefront. He has sponsored a study of telepathy, called the N’Kisi Project, between N’Kisi, an African Gray parrot, and his human, Aimee Morgana. (http://www.sheldrake.org/). And, though not directly connected to animal communication, both the University of Edinburgh, UK and Duke University in the United States are sponsoring serious research into paranormal phenomena.
