Animal Communication: A New Paradigm?

I have been communicating with animals for 6 years now. Wild ones, domestics, mammals, birds, almost all are willing to speak, and each has a distinct personality. I’ve had some animals speak so fast that I have a hard time keeping up, others so spare in words that it felt like I had to prospect for each answer I got. I’ve spoken with some who have, when asked, offered deep insight, and others who seem to have never had a single deep thought flit through their brain.

Let’s assume mental communication between human and animal exists. What purpose could it serve? Well, for one, how many times have animal owners cried, “If only I knew what she was thinking or feeling? If only she could tell me.” Animal communication can fill this need. It serves as a distinct, new perspective in the puzzling arena of human-animal interactions. When the information gathered through animal communication is added to the arsenal of the veterinarian, the behaviorist, the trainer, a broader diagnostic and treatment picture emerges. All can gain more insight into issues such as the timeliness of euthanasia, the effectiveness of certain medical treatments, behavioral issues, even the appropriate placement for an adoptable animal.

The possibilities inherent to enhancing the connection between animals and people intrigue me. I find the bond between human and animal remarkable. We humans allow our animals to touch us at a very, very deep level. Sometimes, I think we may allow our animals to touch us even more deeply than we do other people for we trust our animals’ love more. In honor of that bond, I wish to do all I can to encourage it. Animal communication allows me to do so. I consider the potential of animal communication so far reaching that I have entered a Masters program in Clinical Counseling to hone my skills as I act as interpreter/translator between human and animal.
